Oh… the view

Oh… the view

Set high above Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield CT this stunning renovation started off as a dated house trapped in the 1980’s.  Once taking ownership of this home the family knew it could be a special place with the help of the right design team.  The architectural office of Gray Organchi brough the background in modern architecture and a design meant to take advantage of its amazing lake views.  Walking through the front door and climbing the short set of steps of this home lets a person know what makes it so special.  The dual-level open floor plan with a large curtain wall of custom Unilex windows frames the lake and hill side of Vaughn’s Neck, a natural protected preserve.  Natural light fills the space letting you know that no matter the activity the amazing views are only as far away as a turn of your head. The modern kitchen and dining room on the open level also have views of the lake.  2 lift and slide doors in the dining room give access to a balcony and lake facing deck.

Just off the living room a doorway brings you into the primary suite. This space has a luxury bath, large walk-in closet and bedroom with a wall of glass that reminds you that the great views can be had from most every room of the inspiring home.  The deck just beyond the sliding glass door presents as a private outdoor retreat to enjoy a good book.

Descending the stairs from the upper living room to the lower living space brings the views closer as the curtain wall of glass begins to give the illusion of being outside.  Access to the main 2 of the 4 decks can be had through the large lift and slide patio door found in the living room.  Adjacent to the living room in the office space for the occasional necessity to do some work.  Its desk space with its own window makes for an inviting place to try and accomplish tasks, given the views it might be a tall order.   This level also has 3 bedrooms of which 2 have their own views of the lake. Additionally, there are two full baths, a laundry/mudroom and a nook for reading, relaxing or taking a nap.

A staircase at the core of this level takes you to the lowest level of the house.  At its base there is a large game room with a TV area and in keeping with the rest of the house large picture windows that flood the space with light.  You will also find a sauna to help the aching muscles recover from a morning of waterskiing and a full bath for taking a cold shower.
